ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
General Information About the Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Profession and the Department
Our department trains qualified professionals to meet the needs of the maritime sector, which encompasses a wide range of fields including ships, marine structures, and maritime technologies. Our department maintains a dynamic development process by organizing its educational infrastructure in accordance with international education standards and accreditation criteria.
Graduates of the YTÜ Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering account for approximately 50% of the engineers working in the ship and yacht construction industries and related sectors in our country. The primary fields of employment for our graduates include shipyards, ship and yacht design firms, ship and yacht ancillary industry companies, ship-operating (shipowner) companies, insurance companies, classification societies (Lloyd’s, ship inspection and certification), offshore watch engineering on ships, maritime-related public institutions, and organizations in the defense industry.
By taking specific elective courses in the Department, our students—unlike those in programs at other universities—gain the qualification to work as Long-Distance Watch Engineers on ships.
